Eugen Raportoru
Eugen Raportoru (b. 1961) is one of the leading figures in contemporary Romanian painting, whose works unveil deep layers of social and cultural memory. His art focuses on the Roma community, exploring themes of identity and vulnerability. On his canvases, personal and collective memories intertwine, where vibrant colors coexist with pale tones, reflecting both the richness of Roma culture and the melancholy of social exclusion.
His blurred forms and layered textures create a floating, dreamlike atmosphere that is both nostalgic and unsettling. The deliberate fragmentation of compositions suggests the merging of past and present, while ghostly figures seem to emerge from the background, hovering on the canvas.
The exhibition opens on March 21, 2025, at 18:00, at the Annie Klaus Gallery in Cluj-Napoca. The exhibition is curated by Horea Avram, with guest artist Dávid Frunzea, whose work also explores themes of social identity.
