He was born in 1995 in Reghin, Mures County, currently residing and working in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Without an academic background in art, he has had an inclination toward artistic creation since early on, crystallizing in 2020, when he specialized in the string art technique. A self-taught artist, his works comprise detailed abstract patterns, geometrical representations of mathematical functions organized in a coherent story. He had his debut solo exhibition in 2025 in Annie KLAUS Gallery, Cluj Napoca.
While in the 2020 lockdown, he initially intended to pass the time with something creative. It didn’t take long to realise this situation was not restrictive, but liberating. “It’s funny how being locked inside makes one look inside. How from a collectively felt grimness grew an intense longing for telling stories. How the force of hammering nails, the tension of the thread, or the arrangement of colors carry an astounding resemblance to human emotions. How getting lost, when looking too closely – or grasping the beauty in getting lost, when seeing the bigger picture – is the very story of human existence, at different orders of magnitude… The pandemic passed, but the feeling that creation is endemic to my soul remained.” Raul Ciurba
