Mátyás Zsolt Sárosi was born in 1985 in the small
Transylvanian town of Kézdivásárhely.
He is a graphic artist whose earlier acrylic paintings can also be described as colorful graphics. He enjoys painting or layering by masking and building up the painting like an inverted sgraffito.
Recently, he has returned to pen and acrylic ink drawing. When working on largecanvases, he approaches them with an opposite impulse: instead of creating large- scale, airy compositions with spacious brush strokes, he strives to saturate the canvas to the brim with intricate details, reminiscent of miniature painting. The larger thecanvas, the thinner the pen he uses. Sometimes, it takes him up to a month to fill asingle page. His drawings invite prolonged observation, allowing the viewer’s eye andmind to wander.
The overall composition of his work is complex, inspired by nature. He believes that the closer one examines a formation, the more intricate it becomes. Breaking it downto its organic and inorganic components, and eventually to its essence, reveals increasing complexity at every step.
In these drawings, the viewer is invited to explore under a metaphorical microscope—not just familiar living or inanimate matter, but an abstract, biomechanical worldof his own creation. Through his work, he also searches for his roots and explores theessence of the surrealist expression that has accompanied his art throughout his career.
