Gheorghi Schein’s activity in the art world is mainly focused on landscapes and
scenes of nature, a fascination for rural subjects that has started ever since his
family moved from Bruxelles to a small village in Transylvania.
The way he perceives nature has been shaped by both his education in the arts, from receiving his Masters degree in Painting, but also from discovering
different artists, from painters Levitan, Turner, Richter, Wyeth and the Romanian
artist Ștefan Luchian, but also Russian director Tarkovsky and poet Sergei
Esenin.
While at first being majorly influenced by luminism and tonalism, he has since
outgrown this phase into a more accurate representation of nature by giving it a
new poetic dimension. As the artist himself says, the lyricism in his work is a
combination of capturing the atmosphere or general mood of the scene and the
contemplation that start gives birth to feelings of melancholy and meditation, the
works themselves being a vision of the nature put through a personal filter.
